Welcome to Tyrconnell Historic Goldmine Outback
Australia
Experience the unique culture of the goldmining
era, walk
in the Australian bush, birdwatch
or pan for gold.
Enjoy a meal
or have an Aussie barbecue and BYO. The
magic of the Australian outback can be yours to experience at Tyrconnell,
we have a unique destination offering peace, clean fresh air and
a beautiful crowd-free environment.
The great Australian bush is famous for its wide
open spaces and it's right here for everyone to enjoy.
Tyrconnell is within easy reach of Cairns International Port and
Airport to Tropical North Queensland, Australia. Just 150km west
by road, and right off the beaten track, you will find yourself
in another world. These rugged tree-studded hills were once home
to 10,000 people scrambling for gold. Now a bush retreat, 120 years
ago Tyrconnell was the most famous mine on the Hodgkinson goldfield.
Several original buildings and machines remain testament to that
bustling era.
Tyrconnell offers guests a very special experience. Overnight guest
numbers are limited to 12. Although Andrew and his family mined
for gold at Tyrconnell in the 1980s, the focus is now on restoring
the heritage assets on site and sharing it with visitors. For information
